Asbestos in make-up?

Woah! A new article came out recently about a mom that found asbestos in her daughters make-up kit purchased at Claire’s. Shocking yet not surprising giving that the FDA doesn’t motor most of the cosmetic companies. The FDA does not have the legal authority to approve cosmetic products and ingredients (other than color additives) before they go on the market. This includes but is not limited to ingredients that are contaminated with harmful chemicals to the public. Scary right? So, if one mom finds out that her kids eye shadow is contaminated they are by law to have a recall but, in the process of making its not regulated. “Under the law, cosmetics must not be “adulterated” or “misbranded.” For example, they must be safe for consumers when used according to directions on the label, or in the customary or expected way, and they must be properly labeled. Companies and individuals who market cosmetics have a legal responsibility for the safety and labeling of their products.”      (https://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/ResourcesForYou/Consumers/ucm135709.htm)

This coming straight from the source. This is also where animal testing gets involved for some major brands such as Avon, Clinique, Makeup forever, Victoria Secret, OPI, Maybelline, Benefit and Estée Lauder. They animal test to test the products before they go onto the market allowing them to see if their ingredients are tainted and if the product is what they want it to be for example, a certain shade, how it feels, etc.

With woman being more and more involved with make-up it’s so important that this becomes more regulated. If it doesn’t this generation will face major heath problems in the future!
